My early research focused on developing and improving upon local and regional glacial chronostratigraphies for the northwestern end of the Himalayan-Tibetan orogen, with the view to identifying the possible controls upon the extent, style and timing of Quaternary glaciation (Orr et al., 2017, 2018; Saha et al., 2018, 2019, 2020). A combination of cosmogenic nuclide dating and sedimentological and topographic analysis is used to constrain past glacier dynamics. These studies have argued that changes in the strength of the summer monsoon and mid-latitude westerlies largely determine the amplitude of glacier advances throughout the orogen. This work has also demonstrated the importance of paleotopography in understanding changes to glacier extent and type over time (Orr et al., 2018).
