Hello! My name is Elizabeth Orr and I am a lecturer in Physical Geography in the Department of Geography at Durham University, UK. I am interested in the earth surface processes and landscape evolution of mountain environments. My research is largely motivated by a wish to better understand the geomorphic and environmental impacts of climate change within mountainous regions; a setting which is particularly sensitive to planetary warming.

06/2024: Sediment Cascades and Climate Change 2024!

A BSG network grant supported the first "Sediment Cascades and Climate Change" workshop in Los Queñes, Maule Region, Chile. This bilingual, interactive 4-day workshop aimed to establish new collaborations and research focused on enhancing our knowledge around geomorphic hazards and climate change. The 27 attending researchers came from South and North America and Europe, spanning the disciplines of geomorphology, hydrology, climatology, and geology, all with a shared interest in the workshop themes. The workshop featured invited talks, group discussions, team-building activities, a field excursion up the Rio Teno, and a "Meet the Local Community" event in Los Queñes. Many thanks to Rebekah Harries, German Aguilar, Paulina Vergara for helping to organise the workshop! More info: https://sedimentcascades.webspace.durham.ac.uk/

12/2020: APECS Polar Times podcast

I was interviewed by Jack Buckingham for the Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS) new podcast called PolarTimes. We chatted about my research in the Third Pole (a.k.a. the Himalaya), the rapid response of mountains to modern climate change, the importance of field safety and how yaks should not be used as travel companions! Also, PolarTimes has some other great episodes about polar science which I would definitely recommend! Check it out on Spotify!
